Dandelions and Flatweed

Dandelions and flatweed are two flowering weeds we find ourselves battling with in our lawns. Yet, though they are weeds, they have been known for medicinal use and teas for many years. They are also edible in salads.

After maturing, the flower heads turn into seed heads as seen in the top picture. They then disperse and float, landing where they will and being humble enough to grow where they land. As they fly, their black seeds are said to carry wishes of prosperity and new beginnings.

Dandelions are often thought of as a symbol of resilience and hopefulness. They are sometimes viewed as symbols of a free-spirited soul and innocence.

It’s not always the prettiest flower that is of the most use.
