An AlzAuthors Anthology

The Poetry for the Dementia Journey Book Launch is today ❤️

“This collection of poetry, of words, and pain, and experience was written by people in the midst of a caregiving journey for a loved one with Alzheimer's or dementia.

Or perhaps their journey has ended and they're left in the aftermath, trying to understand what their journey meant, how they survived it, or what comes next.

Those of us who have lived through a dementia journey understand that it may be fraught with loneliness, frustration, despair, and joy, and we can both lose and find ourselves in the experience.

Moments of great clarity and meaning can arise.

We also know that storytelling through poetry lightens burdens and serves as a means of expression, of sharing our experience, opening hearts to joy, or drowning sorrows. Finding the right words to tell our stories can ease our heartache.

Reading the words of others can inspire us, give us strength, and show us we are not alone.

Welcome to the journey.”

This is an amazing anthology of many people walking similar paths. Though every path is different, caregiving for a loved one shares a similar thread for us all. Last year, AlzAuthors hosted a podcast of poets/caregivers who find strength in writing. Each of us donated poems towards this anthology, which is now a tapestry of emotions filled with love, tears, fears, and strength. May you find some comfort in these words.

Please share this news with someone that is searching for help along their journey. The first step is to realize you are not alone, but in the company of many. ❤️
